Engineering Drafting & Construction Estimating Portfolio

John Glenn F. Cadenas

Registered Civil Engineer · Construction Estimator · Draftsperson

I help construction teams prepare accurate quantity takeoffs, engineering drawings, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), cost estimates, and organized technical documentation for infrastructure and building projects.

My work transforms engineering drawings into reliable information that helps teams plan, estimate, and deliver projects with confidence.

About me

I'm John Glenn F. Cadenas, a registered Civil Engineer from Bohol, Philippines, with over three years of experience supporting public infrastructure projects through quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), technical drawings, and project documentation.

I began my career with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) as an Engineering Assistant and was promoted twice, first to Engineer I and later to Project Development Officer II. Throughout my career, I've contributed to the planning and development of water supply systems, reservoirs, multi-purpose buildings, covered courts, and other government infrastructure projects.

My approach is simple: understand the drawings, measure accurately, document clearly, and deliver work that project teams can rely on.

Today, I provide remote support in construction estimating, quantity takeoffs, engineering drafting, and technical documentation, helping contractors and builders deliver projects with accuracy and confidence. I use Bluebeam Revu, PlanSwift, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Excel to produce accurate, organized, and dependable estimates, drawings, and project documentation.

Working toward Australian estimating

My engineering experience is Philippine public infrastructure. I'm now preparing for Australian estimating and drafting work, and I'd rather be direct about where that stands.

I've completed 45 hours of coursework in Australian construction cost estimation — residential projects, and plumbing and electrical — covering plan interpretation, industry-standard estimating tools, and Australian estimating practice.

I'm building an Australian-focused portfolio through training projects and practice takeoffs based on Australian-style drawings, using PlanSwift, Bluebeam Revu, and Excel. These are practice and training work, not client projects, and they're labelled that way throughout this site.

How I work

Today I'm building a career that combines engineering, drafting, and construction estimating — and preparing to do that work for Australian teams. This portfolio is where I show what I've done and how I can help.

Experience

Three years with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the Philippine government agency responsible for public infrastructure. My responsibilities grew from preparing documents to preparing projects.

Jul 2025 — Jul 2026

Project Development Officer II

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) — Bohol 3rd District Engineering Office

Planning & coordination — worked upstream of construction, preparing projects before they were built.

  • Prepared Programs of Work, Detailed Unit Price Analysis (DUPA), and cost estimates for proposed infrastructure works.
  • Produced engineering drawings and quantity takeoffs supporting project preparation.
  • Coordinated planning and design documentation across contributors.
  • Supported technical reviews and project readiness checks.
Aug 2024 — Jul 2025

Engineer I

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) — Bohol 3rd District Engineering Office

Technical ownership — held responsibility for the engineering output itself, not just its preparation.

  • Prepared engineering plans and quantity takeoffs for public works projects.
  • Produced BOQs and cost estimates from approved drawings.
  • Conducted site inspections and field measurements, reconciling site conditions against documentation.
  • Prepared Variation Orders, as-staked plans, and as-built plans for ongoing and completed works.
  • Coordinated documents between design, review, and implementation stages.
Aug 2023 — Aug 2024

Engineering Assistant

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) — Bohol 3rd District Engineering Office

Foundation — learned the discipline that everything since has depended on: measure carefully, document clearly.

  • Supported preparation of engineering drawings and quantity summaries.
  • Assisted with BOQs, Programs of Work, and cost estimates.
  • Built working fluency in measurement conventions and documentation standards.
Engineering Assistant Engineer I Project Development Officer II

Promoted twice in three years through increasing responsibility in drawings, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimation.
